putting the cart after the horse
But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33 (NET1)
If the Great Commission is our mission statement, then going and making disciples is the horse that must pull the cart. Another way to put it is voiced in Proverbs:
First plant your fields; then build your barn. Proverbs 24:27 (MSG)
But we have done it backwards. We have built the church and then put together our outreach ministry, making outreach and evangelism secondary. That is putting the cart before the horse.
God is rearranging our priorities. As we put the Great Commission at the forefront of ministry, everything else will fall into its proper place. In our church, that means making a commitment to Mobile Ministry in some fashion or another as a first priority, even if it is to support in prayer those who go out. For those with infants, it may mean one stays at home to allow the other one to minister. For some, it may mean giving up something that is prized to obey the Great Commission. What will it mean for you? That is something to take to God in prayer.
