Praying for those in authority as a world Christian

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. As you make your requests, plead for God's mercy upon them, and give thanks. 2 Pray this way for kings and all others who are in authority, so that we can live in peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 for he wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NLT)

If you are a Christian, you are a world Christian. Our identity is bound up with Christ and cannot be limited by nationalistic thinking. God's kingdom is made up of people from every nation and ethnic group. His plan is for His kingdom to rule over all other kingdoms established by man. As we pray for those in leadership, let us bow our knees to the King of Kings and acknowledge His sovereign rule over all the earth. The nations are but a drop in the bucket compared to His glorious might. Here is a sample prayer using the passage above.

Jesus, I pray for all people, not just those of my nation. Lord, you are sovereign over all the earth! Be merciful to us. Grant us salvation rather than the judgment we deserve. We give you thanks for your goodness and patience towards us. I ask you to work in the hearts of those who are in authority. Grant them wisdom and the fear of the Lord. Let them search for you with all their hearts and find you. Grant us the blessing of living in a peaceful, law abiding nation where we can live our lives in quietness and dignity. Let us be gripped with your passion for the lost and take advantage of every opportunity to share the gospel with those who do not yet know you.   Amen!
