seeking first the Kingdom of God
Liberty
Church is in on mission with God. Our motto is "Loving God. Loving People.
Restoring Lives. Teaching Others to Do the Same." We want everything we do to align with the Great
Commandment - to love God and our neighbors, and the Great Commission - to
go and make disciples. In addition, since our inception, God has put the
theme of Isaiah 61 on our hearts. Jesus quoted from this
chapter when he inaugurated his public ministry.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18-19 (ESV)
As his representatives, we exist to continue his ministry of preaching the gospel, healing the brokenhearted, and setting the captives free, as the Holy Spirit equips and empowers us. We understand this to be a reflection of God's heart to restore people from their sin and brokenness back into a right relationship with Him. Our heavenly Father desires for us to serve him and enjoy his presence, privileges, and blessings for eternity. Desiring to glorify and please our heavenly Father, we embrace a kingdom lifestyle and message and focus on making disciples (teaching others to do the same as we endeavor to do), being a welcoming community, and engaging in caring, compassionate service.
Pastoring Neighborhoods
Through something we call Mobile Ministry, we have begun to pastor neighborhoods. Many in our community do not attend church either because they are not believers or because of some other reason. Our church targets those who do not yet believe in our Lord Jesus or who are not currently part of a local church. Through Mobile Ministry, we bring the ministry of the church to these people where they live, showing them that the church cares about them without asking for anything in return.
Networking Mobile Churches
To make it easier for unchurched people to gather with believers, twice a month on the weekends that contain the first and third Sundays of the month we meet at various locations and times. We may meet in restaurants, parks, homes, or wherever a group may choose. Church buildings are somewhat non-essential and can actually hinder God's mission. People are what matter to God, and Mobile Church is an attempt to put people first while making the church more accessible.
Restoring Lives and Communities
In addition to being communities in which Christ's presence and love are experienced, we encourage our folks to be involved in caring and compassionate ministry to the poor, the hurting, the oppressed, the overlooked, and the brokenhearted. We are committed to serving Christ by serving the "least of these." Our gospel cannot be understood merely as some sort of faith transaction that keeps us out of hell. The love of Christ propels us out into the world of pain and need. Through the ministry of God's Word and the power of his Spirit, we work to see individual lives restored. We also partner with ministries such as Sustainable Alamance to see God's kingdom come in practical ways that foster change to families and communities through life skills training, mentoring, and job placement. We look for ways for our people to get involved in these types of ministries because not only do they benefit the ones who need it most, but those who serve receive life transforming insights and blessings as well.
Being Kingdom Oriented
We
partner with other area ministries which have a similar kingdom focus. Some of our partners
are Greater Love World Outreach Ministries, The Weaver Center Food Kitchen, Piedmont Men of Steel,
Sustainable Alamance, and Steel Magnolias. We are always looking for
ministry partners with whom we can invest our lives, money, and time. We
have found that as we invest in people from other churches and
ministries that God takes care of us. We are not here to build our own
kingdom, but God's.
